“Fantastic story telling! Brings to the front for any reader what it’s like to be a Southeastern Conference football official. In depth, personal, funny, entertaining and just a plain good ole read. I highly recommend it. Thanks Gus, and way to go!

“Fabulous look behind the curtain into the life and tribulations of SEC officials! Lots of short stories covering Gus’s 31 years as an official. I had a hard time putting the book down! Highly recommend to any football fan of any age.

“Being from the Atlanta area throughout my teenage years, football was kind of a big deal. Growing up with the one and only Gus Morris was no different. Throughout the entire book, it was as if I was right there with him as he related behind the scenes activity that the typical college football fan knows very little about. Anyone reading this book will walk away with a different point of view and most likely a newfound respect for the officials down on the field every Saturday in the fall. A fantastic book and a must for any college football fan!

“A fantastic book that humanizes the profession of officiating; a collection of compelling stories about the inter-workings of college officiating

“As a fan of college football, I have watched thousands of games and never thought of the officials unless a perceived horrible call was made. Reading this book helped me to understand a little bit about the hours of preparation that officials make to get the calls right. It also shares some very funny moments that the officials have to deal with on the sidelines that we as fans have no idea are even happening. Interesting and fun read from an entirely different perspective.

“I was Gus Morris’s and his father’s internal medicine physician for more than twenty years. Gus recently gave me a copy of his book about Southeastern Conference (SEC) officiating, Saturdays in the South.

These well written stories about every aspect of officiating college football games are wonderful. You won’t be able to put the book down. Any football fan will really enjoy all facets of officiating and appreciate how hard the job is.

There is suspense, humor, much information, not only about the games, but how difficult it is to get to the games and still hold down one’s day job. I highly recommend this book!”

“The personal stories of games and events was a completely different perspective from Gus’s side of the game. Very enjoyable to see it from this view!”

“If you are a true football fan, this is a “must read” book. I have read the book twice, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every story in the book each time. The stories are short, making it an easy read. Gus is a great story teller, and his many years as a SEC official provides lots of “behind the scenes experiences.” He has lived an exciting life in football, and his book is a memorable and entertaining summary.”

“Great book, I could relate to many of the topics that Gus had in his book. I worked with Gus many times at LSU Tiger stadium during the years as I documented the fouls that occurred during the game. Really gives outsiders a good glimpse of what it takes to officiate in the SEC. Also, a bit about the different personalities of the head coaches. I highly recommend this great book!”

“Great book! Interesting and fun to view the other side of college football. Everyone needs to read it before Fall football starts. We’ll all watch the games with a real respect with what these officials go thru every week. Great fun!”
